fatbook: compendium of adipose tissue biology using systems immunology

We’re studying the relationship between the number of immune cells and fat cells in the body when someone becomes obese.

It turns out that there are some unexpected connections between immune cells and fat cells, so we’re using cutting-edge techniques like machine learning to analyze data from many different sources at once. By looking at all of these different pieces of information together, we hope to identify what makes some people more likely to become unhealthy when they gain weight.

Our early findings have surprised us – it turns out that just counting the number of fat cells in the body isn’t enough to predict whether someone is at risk for health problems related to obesity. We’re excited to keep studying this topic and learn even more about how different cells work together to keep us healthy.
